Masala Chai

How to Make Masala Chai

Larisa Litvin Recipe Leave a Comment

Enjoyed by millions in India, Masala Chai is now popular around the world. Although there are many chai blends available in supermarkets, making your own is quick, satisfying, and the results are much better. A steaming freshly made cup of masala chai is my favorite way to start a cold winter day.

Masala Chai

Serves 2
  • 1 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 2 teaspoons Black Tea (I prefer organic Assam)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ginger Powder or freshly grated Ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 3 Green Cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1 dash Black Pepper, freshly ground
  • 2 teaspoons or to taste Jaggery or Unrefined Sugar
  1. Boil the water with spices for 2 minutes.
  2. Reduce heat. Add the tea and jaggery. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the milk and heat until hot.
  4. Remove from the heat and strain through a fine strainer.
  5. Adjust the sweetness to your taste and serve hot.
